Today's W.T when it mentioned Depression and Anxiety
by Isambard Crater inour co-ordinator put his hand up and commented saying that people who go on about how depressed or anxious they are just need to stop giving in to impulses and show more self control without letting their emotions rule their lives.. if anyone from the media, a government agency or some other public body heard a comment like that, they'd have a hard time exercising self control over the rubbish this elder spouted, which my friends and family with genuine depression found insulting..

as i am “inactive”, i am forced to stay low, thus, i was not argumentative.
yet, at one moment, he said that angels protect jws in field service and other situations.

Although I don't remember all the details, there was a true story of a young married sister who was either selling a car or inquired about free baby clothing. Sorry I can't quite remember that point. But the woman who showed up, killed her by cutting the baby out of her and claimed it as her own.
Her father was an elder and he and the husband before they left, had prayed "that she would be safe". So this caused the father great sorrow and turmoil. It must have affected other witnesses too. So the WT I'm guessing, pressured this elder to give them an article on how he overcame this apparent lack of care by god.
Basically, he said he was torn over god not protecting his daughter and agonizing over his faith in him. But eventually he reasoned that god had kept his daughter spiritually safe and she would be resurrected. They did find the baby boy ok.
The WT has no conscience, just a greedy desire for everyone to accept excuses for god.

Outside JW World They Barely Exist
by Farmer Jim1 inis anyone else staggered by the fact that outside of the organization most of the general public seem to know very little or nothing about jw’s?
when i was in i was led to believe that 99% of the worlds population had been giving sufficient warning, knew what it was all about and were stubbornly sticking to their immoral ways.
the reality seems to be that the entire jw universe is barely noticeable to the masses.

I used to see a few out in service after leaving and thought the same thing.
Didn't we go out thinking that as people drove by or saw us from their windows, that a BIG witness was being given? That we were important enough to be recognized were ever we went? Assemblies with the badges on going out to dinner....
One nice old lady told me that in her town years ago, when they saw witnesses, they'd call everyone so they could "miss" the knock on the door. But she didn't know much about what they taught - just that they were nice but a nuisance.

As an artist, I find old drawings and such. Sometimes I keep them for one reason or another and other times they are tossed because there are so many that are attempts that failed.
Sometimes I'm amazed at what I drew back then. Recently a stippled picture that I spent hours and hours on, slipped out of the pad it was being kept in. This picture had been done on Bristol smooth paper that was supposed to be acid free, archivel etc. Well the one time I bought this expensive paper for several important pieces, was all for nothing. I have kindergarten paper that has lasted better than this. So the picture slipped out and fell to the floor - and turned into a mosaic. Crummy paper was like chalk and shattered. I occasionally look at it on the floor. All that time wasted because of the paper. But I don't equate paper with people.
I'll never buy another piece of paper by Bristol. That's my lesson. As for as the painter - he can paint over stuff if he wants but why not buy or make another canvass? I would have given it to the boy. Art is after all, in my opinion, something that is found in the eye of the beholder and an experience unique to the viewer. Haha sorry, I often get carried away from the topic.

One SciFi show that starred Martin Landau and Barbara Bain (can't remember the name of it) that had them on the moon traveling thru space cause for some reason it lost it's orbit around earth - had them run into an alien that was kept locked up in a "living" asteroid. At first he seemed rather charming and nice. But then he began torturing all of them. He had this philosophy that, if you didn't suffer, you wouldn't know happiness.
Needless to say, he got imprisoned again and sent on his way.
Perhaps God feels like we need to suffer to know happiness too.
redvip2000 - I think it would be argued by a JW that Satan thinks that wars etc is just part of being independent of God and that is his way of happiness. Not that it makes sense of course.
punky - Yesss I have that album. Justin Hayward has been my favorite singer since I was a teenager. I even have his Blue Jays album.

punkofniceties - Yeah, no proof. But religion is a business so they have their strategies. The latest broadcast showed they are also aware that teenagers are leaving religion when they go to college.
Did you know that God is also working desperately and feverishly to end suffering? But he doesn't want any to be destroyed? Once you are outside looking in, they seem to say all the same things but still promise that only they know the real truth.

Uber Cart Witnessing at the State Fair
by truth_b_known inlast thursday i bunch of us working decided we were going to head down to the state fair and badge our way in to get a fletcher's corny dog for lunch.
we had to go to a specific gate to park and show our credentials to get in.
this meant driving halfway around the perimeter of the entire fairgrounds.

If they want to become more attractive to the passerbys, they could start offering coffee from a carafe. Little cookies to munch on as they look over the literature. Hey the JW's could save money by not going to starbucks.
Funny how the WT hasn't commented on the adults wasting money on Starbucks while attacking children who want to buy ice cream...

They were just as clever as the WT in twisting explanations. I had to laugh as well as shake my head over the manipulation of the scriptures. The last question was, Why Does Satan Attack God's Holy City after he is let loose at the end of the 1,000 years. Doesn't he know he can't win?
With much glee and smirking (yes you can see it, even if it is just radio) the minister summed up Satan's actions with one word. SIN - SIN makes you STUPID! Yes Satan is stupid because he sinned and so wants to believe he can win.
It made me laugh at what people come up with. Although it is a good explanation about why the GB persist in believing they have God's blessing.

My story and what I'm trying to do with it
by Ft2188 inmy dad was an elder my entire life and my sister a regular pioneer for most of my life, along with my mother.
ill never forget being 4 years old and staring up at the stars outside and my dad leaning over to and saying "look what jehovah made for you".
my response, "but how do you know god is real"?
